One
of the Arena's most-used facilities is the floodlit synthetic
turf pitch (60x30m), which can be booked as a whole or
as three 20mx30m five-a-side football pitches. The area
is also suitable for hockey and netball. As you can imagine,
this pitch gets very busy on week nights, thanks to a
combination of heavy use from member clubs and a lack
of decent five-a-side facilities in North Sheffield.
However, there are always some time slots free, with
prices ranging from £15-28 per pitch, per 55 minutes.
As you might expect from the home of South Yorkshire's only National Conference amateur rugby league team, the Arena boasts two full size rugby pitches. As well as being home to the Hawks, the Arena also hosts student rugby league matches with Sheffield Hallam University and training sessions for Sheffield Eagles from time to time. In fact, it was also the training base of the Irish Rugby League team during the latter stages of the 2000 Rugby League World Cup! The Arena is also the venue for local schools RL finals, the Yorkshire area junior club finals and the Yorkshire area Sport England Active Schools RL Camp in June 2002. It is widely recognized as one of the premier Rugby League venues nationally outside the professional game. |
